Company profile
Founded in Australia in 1938, Hassell is a single, privately owned international network of design studios. Each studio has the flexibility and autonomy to service local clients, whilst enjoying the advantages of being part of an international network – access to an integrated culture, combined resources, and collective experience.
Hassell is structured around the key disciplines of architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and planning, with integrated sustainability and urban design capabilities. Hassell draws on influences, learning and experience from all disciplines to inform their design work.
The challenge
Hassell was faced with the challenge of fierce local and international competition with other planning and architecture firms.
To succeed, Hassell needed to find innovative ways to present their ideas and streamline the creative process. The solution would:
- provide innovative ways to present creative ideas
- create greater efficiencies in the business
- support creative collaboration across Hassell’s three main technology teams: ICT, CAD Management, and Business Systems.
'Paper-Less' strategy
After acknowledging the environmental and professional benefits of going paper-less, Bill Rue, Chief Information Officer at Hassell, sought an appropriate solution. Adobe software was known to speed up workflow and allow quick mark-ups, and the system was sufficiently reliable and flexible to meet Hassell’s demands.
'Paper-Less' solution
Hassell implemented Adobe Acrobat Pro and Creative Suite Design Standard. This solution allowed Hassell to produce high-quality, easily distributable files that provided reliable print output at the resolution needed. These files could be viewed and interacted with by external consultants, engineers and clients without having to purchase software, or revert to paper. It also provided an interactive presentation tool that allowed for a more straightforward and environmentally-friendly review process through its mark-up functions.
The streamlined deployment and management of best-in-class software across the organisation allowed Hassell to better protect confidential information in documents and meet internal compliance policies, as well as take advantage of new upgrades and customer support offered by Adobe.
'Paper-Less' results
According to Bill Rue, Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe Creative Suite Design Standard are now “integral to [Hassell’s] day-to-day workflows”. The solution has provided:
- greater automation of the creation of forms and collection of data
- improved communication and collaboration between parties during document review and revision processes, resulting in greater integrity of the review process
- greater environmental sustainability due to reduced printing, couriers, mail and written instructions
- improved efficiency and productivity with faster turnarounds
- consistent professional output and resultant greater client confidence.
